From Forests to Cities – DEVELOPING RURAL WOMEN’S ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The aim of the project is to focus on the development of inhabitants and entrepreneurs in rural areas, especially women’s small-scale entrepreneurs and tourism businesses in Northern Peripheral areas. All partner areas have in common high women unemployment, poor infrastructure, depopulation and many natural resources. The main point in this transitional project is to sustain the local economy and create employment possibilities for rural entrepreneurs in nature and tourism business and sectors connected with it by promoting entrepreneurship and provide support to the establishment of local business. Several concrete objectives have been set, such as give better knowledge and skills to entrepreneurs about product development, marketing and markets, find new raw materials from nature and use nature by an environmentally sustain way, determine women’s motivation and perceived obstacles for income generating activities based entrepreneurship, as well as their participation in nature management, either their own or as a horticulture and nature professionals, exchange knowledge and experiences through networking, workshops and seminars with the participating countries and networks

Target Area: Kainuu in Finland, Gävleborg in Sweden, Highlands and Island area in Scotland, Partners are searched from Faroe Islands and Nord-Tröndelag in Norway
