Assessment of cultural heritage in remote areas (ACHiRA)
Measure: 2.1
Project Type: Preparatory

The overall Objective of the preparatory project is to create a partnership of the most relevant groups of researchers and practitioners. The ACHiRA project aims to adopt technologies that will create data compatible with the IT communication networks being established throughout the NP regions. The preparatory project will enable a highly qualified consortium to discuss the key areas where technology can provide a cost effective and valuable interpretation of the condition of heritage materials such as earth, wood and stone. The main concerns regarding surface alteration and biodeterioration of natural and man-made structures pertaining to each NP region can be fully explored and discussed. The main aim of the ACHiRA project will be directed towards identifying new technologies particularly suitable for on-site measurement, including erosion and biodeterioration processes, and various chemical and physical parameters. There will be an element of IT involved in the project from data interpretation software to methods of downloading and transferring data obtained by on site sensors in the remote NP regions.

Target Area: Areas of Northern Scotland, Northwest Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland where important archaeological and architectural cultural heritage exists in remote locations.
