Will there be differences to the previous programme?
Name: Transnational co-operation in the previous Northern Periphery Programme was part of the European Structural Funds INTERREG IIIB Programmes. For the 2007-2013 Structural Fund period, co-operation will continue under the European Territorial Co-operation Objective. The new programme will be called the “Northern Periphery Programme 2007-2013”.
Priorities: The priorities of the programme have been developed to concentrate on the specific challenges associated with northern, peripheral regions such as sparse population, rurality etc. The European Commission has set a framework for transnational co-operation programmes and there will be a special focus on issues surrounding innovation, the environment, accessibility and rural-urban links (for the benefit of rural NPP areas). The programme will also reflect the Community Strategic Guidelines that have been developed by the European Commission. Copies of the new regulations and guidelines can be downloaded from the downloads section of this website.
Focus: The NPP 2007-2013 will have a special focus on developing new and innovative products and services through transnational co-operation. In the future, projects will need to demonstrate tangible outputs and results that provide added-value from exchange of experience and networking.
Area: The Programme area for the NPP 2007-2013 has benefited from an extension to include rural Northern Ireland, 9 counties on the west coast of Ireland, the west coast of Norway and Dumfries & Galloway in Scotland. Click here for further details.
